Motu 828 - Studiospares

The 828 has held its place as a preferred choice in professional studios ever since its initial introduction in 2001. Its popularity stems from its extensive connectivity options, unwavering reliability, and seamless compatibility with industry standards. Over the years, we’ve seen the release of MK2 and MK3 versions, followed by the Thunderbolt-ready 828x and the 828es, which incorporates MOTU’s proprietary AVB (audio video bridging) technology.

Now, just in time for NAMM 2024, MOTU has treated us to a “comprehensive redesign” of the 828. This represents a complete overhaul, evident by the straightforward ‘828’ name, rather than being labelled as the 828 MK4 or another iteration.

What’s new with the latest version of the MOTU 828?

The MOTU 828, occupies a single rack unit (1U), incorporates ESS Sabre32 Ultra DAC technology, delivering exceptional analog quality as stated by MOTU. Linked via a high-speed 5 Gbps USB3 connection, the 28×32 interface offers an impressive 60 channels of I/O, complete with a 24-channel mixer that boasts built-in effects like reverb and EQ.

On the front panel, a vivid 3.9-inch LCD display provides precise metering and convenient control room functions. Notable front-panel features include two combo XLR/TRS mic inputs, each with individual controls and dedicated send/return inserts. Additional I/O options include TRS analog in/out, ADAT optical I/O, S/PDIF digital I/O, and headphone outputs.828_front_iso_right

Advanced features include wireless control through the CueMix 5 app, loopback USB channels for streaming, and guitar re-amping capabilities. The interface is bundled with essential software, including CueMix 5, MOTU Performer Lite, Ableton Live Lite, and premium loops. With its streamlined 1U design and USB audio class compliance, the MOTU 828 emerges as a potent and versatile solution tailored for professional music producers.

With the unveiling of this latest redesign at NAMM 2024, MOTU is set to raise the bar once again. The new MOTU 828, which features the cutting-edge ESS Sabre32 Ultra DAC technology and a wealth of I/O options, stands to redefine the expectations for audio interfaces. Its advanced features, intuitive control, and bundled software offerings make it a complete solution for music producers seeking excellence in both creativity and performance. With this excellent update, MOTU reaffirms its commitment to providing top-tier tools for music industry professionals.
